Being in shape is the biggest flex you can have as an adult.

After spending the last five years living abroad and traveling, I’ve realized something important: being fit and strong is one of the greatest life hacks you can have—especially as you get older.

I live in a city that welcomes millions of tourists each year, and I see people from all over the world. Sadly, many of the Americans I see struggle with the simplest tasks—like walking up a hill to reach a local attraction. It’s tough to watch, and it only reinforces how much my work as a trainer matters.

The truth is, most people get caught up in fitness fads and influencer hype. But here’s the reality: getting fit isn’t complicated. It doesn’t require secret tricks, extreme diets, or punishment workouts. What it does require is consistency and patience—two things that can feel harder than ever in today’s world of constant comfort.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying comfort, but if you want lasting fitness, you have to embrace just a little discomfort along the way.

And fitness isn’t about six-pack abs or running marathons. For most people, it’s about being able to play with your kids or grandkids without feeling wiped out. It’s about bending down without throwing your back out. It’s about not relying on a cabinet full of prescriptions because your lifestyle has caught up with you.

True fitness is freedom. And it’s never too late to start building it.

“Consistency beats intensity”
